What actually happened?
On 25th august 2018, Chief justice of Pakistan Mian Muhammad Saqib Nisar took sou moto action on illegal installations of billboards and hoardings. In order to clear the issue he gave the orders to “Park & Horticulture Authority (PHA)” to remove the billboards from Mall road Lahore He asked that under which law the installation of this advertisement stuff was allowed?
Later on, He demanded explanations about the threats these billboards are posing to public. And the statement of CJP came that if someone wants to install billboard then he should choose his private places instead of public places. More, he asked about Karachi that, how beautiful Karachi is looking after the removal of billboards.
According to DHA lawyer, Latif Khosa, “Cantonment boards earn up to 30% of their revenues from billboards. If they ban the billboards, how will the cantonment boards pay salaries to employers”.
In response to this, CJP remarked that these companies should find legal and ethical ways to earn. Moreover Justice Ijazul Ahsan remarked that it’s not necessary to ruin the cityscape. “Advertisements can be run on television and social media,” he said.
How good it could be if our people can understand the severity of matter and look for some new solutions instead of appealing over the sensitive matter. OOH industry should eagerly follow the rules and regulations and should search the new ways to keep alive OOH industry.
